Happy November!
Now that Halloween is over, it's time to start thinking toward Thanksgiving...or at least I am. Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday. It has all the wonderful food, and fun family gathering time, and none of the craziness that comes with Christmas' gift-giving, shopping, wrapping, and racing around own for weeks on end. (Not that that is what Christmas is all about anyway. Sadly our culture has gotten priorities a bit deranged.) Thanksgiving's simplicity is very appealing to me. (Although the person doing all of the food-preparation for the big meal may not call it "simple", but hopefully you know what I mean.) Making time to get together and reflect on the year's blessings is something we should do more often.
In the spirit of making the menu as organized and well-prepared as possible, over the next week or so I am going to share some favorite recipes that you might enjoy this holiday season. After all, trying out a bunch of new recipes without having practiced them before can be very intimidating and stress-inducing on what is usually the biggest meal of the year in most households. Some recipes will be standard traditional "staples" of an American Thanksgiving table. Some will be traditional with a twist, or a homemade version of something that is often store-bought. I'll try and throw in some good leftover ideas too. I hope you're hungry! I know I am.
