    Gift Ideas for Food-Lovers

    December 14, 2014 By Mandy 3 Comments

Good Evening, friends. Not to cause alarm, but is everyone aware that this week is our last full week before Christmas? Are you stumped as to what to buy for some of the people in your life? I'm here to help. If you happen to have a friend or family member that has a little bit of food nerd in their blood, or you're looking for a hostess gift, or a stocking stuffer for that person at the office who is sharing homemade goodies all year long, look no further. I've  gathered a few of my favorite gift ideas for food-lovers. Everything I'm sharing is available on Amazon, and I've included links, so it should arrive in plenty of time for Christmas if you shop soon.

Gift Ideas for Food-Lovers - Kitchen Joy

From left to right, beginning at the top:

Saveur Magazine 1-year Subscription: Saveur (The gift that keeps on giving. I am a huge fan of this magazine. It has fantastic articles, recipes, and beautiful photography.)

Garlic Press: OXO SteeL Garlic Press, Stainless (If you don't already have a garlic press, you have no idea what you're missing. Fresh garlic is WAY better than from a jar.)

Double-decker bowl:  Joseph Joseph Double Dish, White and Green (I don't have this yet, but I am wanting it badly for Michigan cherries, pistachios, and other foods that have shells or pits. The upper level of the bowl is for the snack, then the pits or shells can be discarded out of sight in the lower-level dish. The dishes come apart for easy cleaning.)

Salt Box: Totally Bamboo Round Salt Box (I am sort of a newcomer to the fancy finishing salts, but these pretty boxes are great for whatever your favorite salt is for finishing your favorite dishes.)

Bialetti Moka Pot: Bialetti 6800 Moka Express 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker (The authentic, Italian way to make coffee. It is unique in its flavor, and it looks so pretty sitting on an open shelf.)

Copper Cookie Cutters: Old River Road Eiffel Tower Shape Cookie Cutter, Copper (Cookie cutters are a great, inexpensive gift. I have amassed quite a collection of cutters, but this Eiffel Tower is officially at the top of my wish list now.)

My Paris Kitchen by David Lebovitz: My Paris Kitchen: Recipes and Stories (Probably my favorite cookbook this year. David Lebovitz is an exceptional writer, and this book is an absolute beauty. The photography is stunning, and his passion for Paris and its culinary offerings is quite contagious. Plus, his recipes are spot on.)

Himalayan Pink Salt: 8 Oz Chef's Jar - Sherpa Pink Himalayan Salt (I have recently gotten very interested and excited to try some new salts after falling in love with some in Italy. Try it. The variety of flavors that you can perceive in various types of salts is quite surprising, and delicious.)

French Grey Salt:  8 Oz Chef's Jar - French Grey Salt (My first introduction to using finishing salts was after a visit to Eataly in Milan. Michael and I had a revelation after enjoying their Brittany Grey Salt in one of their restaurants. I bought some as my souvenir from Milan, and I just love it on top of steak, or especially on sliced tomatoes with a drizzle of Balsamic Glaze. This is not the exact same salt, but is very similar.)

French  Tea Towels: Shiraleah Assorted French Tea Towel, Set of 4 (So pretty.)

Vanilla Bean Paste: Nielsen Massey Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Paste 4 oz (I'm obsessed with this stuff. I always have some in my cabinet.)

The Hundred-Foot Journey DVD: The Hundred-Foot Journey (1-Disc DVD) (A fantastic, mouth-watering, feel-good movie that will make you happy and hungry.)

Joseph Joseph peeler: Joseph Joseph 3-in-1 Design Rotary Peeler, Pink (Three blades make this the ultimate peeler. One standard blade for all-purpose peeling. One soft-skin blade for delicate skins like tomatoes, kiwis, or peaches. A julienne blade allows you to cut matchstick strips from just about fruit or vegetable you would like.

Cheese Serving Set:  J.A. Henckels International 5-Piece Cheese Set (For the fancy cheese-loving hostess in your life.)

Wine Bottle Stoppers: Joie Expanding Bottle Stopper (Perfect little accompaniment to a bottle of wine for your next dinner host.)

Food & Wine Magazine: Food & Wine (1-year) (Another gift that brings joy and hunger all year long.)

Steak Knives: Wusthof 8pcsteak 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Steak Knife Set with Wooden Gift Box (Perfect for the grill-master in your family. The gift box makes them feel extra fancy, and saves space in the knife block and silverware drawer.)

    Happy Shopping!

I was looking for some specialty food items for my parents earlier today and spotted the Nielsen Massey vanilla bean paste - I remembered that you recommended it and it was a done deal! Thanks :)

Pumpkin White Chocolate Chip Cookies are new on my Pumpkin White Chocolate Chip Cookies are new on my site tonight. These cookies were such a labor of love, or some other powerful emotion mixed with determination. In my experience, most pumpkin cookies ride the line between cookie and cake a little too freely. I ventured to create a spice-packed pumpkin cookie worthy of the coziest Fall Day that gives all the PSL vibes in cookie form without being spongy or cakey. It took me a year, but alas, here we are and I cannot stop eating these Pumpkin White Chocolate Chip Cookies. Link: https://kitchenjoyblog.com/pumpkin-white-chocolate-chip-cookies/

This might be my favorite sourdough recipe I’ve This might be my favorite sourdough recipe I’ve created in quite a while. I set out months ago to recreate a loaf similar to one from a local bakery and after many, MANY rounds of testing, I am happy to report that this Seeded Sourdough Bread recipe is foolproof, trustworthy, and absolutely fantastic. Not too dense or heavy, this loaf delivers on flavor and texture, soft and fluffy with a nutty flavor and perfect amount of crunch. It can be made in a loaf pan (my favorite) or as a freeform round loaf, totally up to you. I've included instructions and photos for both shaping methods. Link in bio.
